Chiang Mai Zoo is the first commercial zoo in Northern Thailand. It is located in 100 Huay Kaew Road, Chiang Mai just north of Chiang Mai University. The zoo has been established 16 June 1977.The privately operated zoo which includes a large variety of animals. In addition, it provides two large aquariums. On 28 October 2008, an aquatic tunnel with a length of 133 metres was opened to the public.
Overall, 400 animal species are represented in the zoo including two giant Pandas, penguins (18 species) and elephants.
The area covers 200 acres. The company owned Chiang Mai Zoo Monorail takes visitors around the premises .
